I've been a home economist my entire adult life — long before that was a cool thing to call yourself. For over twenty years, I've been bulk buying, homesteading, baking bread from scratch, and doing everything I could to feed my family well without wasting a thing. I have multiple freezers. Multiple pantries. A garden I take seriously. Every season, I'm canning tomatoes, dehydrating herbs, freezing soups, and preserving whatever's coming in from outside.
I raised my kids this way. This is just how we live.
But I'm also a software professional — and at some point I started thinking: why is something this important still managed in our heads, on sticky notes, or not at all? Food is one of the biggest expenses a family has. It's also one of the most manageable ones, if you have the right system.
Homebase Pantry is my attempt to bring modern tools to what home economists have always known matters. This blog is where I share what I've learned over two decades — and what I'm still figuring out.
Glad you're here. — Jo
